There’s something to be said about seeking the road less traveled… or rather singletrack less ridden. While the larger biking meccas should be on your bucket list, there’s something to be said about visiting the up-and-coming mountain biking hotspots before they become famous. One of these rising stars in the hidden gem category is the Redding Mountain Biking Trail Network. This is your chance to learn something new through March 18 – 19 AND the opportunity to one day proudly say “I rode the Redding Mountain Biking Trail Network before…”
Redding’s Off Road Cycling History Is DEEP
Even though Redding’s mountain biking is starting to move into cycling’s forefront, its history in off-roading fun is long. In fact, it dates back to 1981. Marin County may have been the spark but Redding’s Whiskeytown Downhill was the fuel to the flame. It was one of the 1st mountain bike races in the country.
The Re-Birth Of the Redding Biking Scene
Although the Whiskeytown Downhill race no longer exists, its spirit and energy was recaptured in the last few decades with building, repairing, and expanding the Redding singletrack to encompass hundreds of miles of trails. This was done with the help from several organizations such as the Redding Trail Alliance, McConnell Foundation (Brian Sindt), BLM, and the Redding Mountain Bike Club just to name a few.
